Where and what I sing

I'm a tenor, and I studied singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from 1989-1994.

Since then, I've sung in opera choruses across Europe, including the Royal Opera Covent Garden, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Paris (Châtelet), Oper Frankfurt, De Vlaamse Oper Antwerp and Ghent, Opéra de la Lorraine Nancy, Garsington and Grange Park. I sing fairly regularly with WNO, having sung now in Cav & Pag, Meistersinger, Aida, Parsifal, Khovanschina, Fliegende Holländer, William Tell, Moses und Aron, Alexander Nevsky, Tristan und Isolde, Fidelio, Otello, Lohengrin, Turandot, Don Carlos, and Mazepa. I've been lucky enough to sing at the Albert Hall on many occasions as well.

I occasionally sing in oratorio, but have a particular fondness for contemporary choral music, and love the opportunity to work on new pieces.

I'm also always happy to sing at weddings or other events, and have a varied repertoire if you need help in choosing music.

I sing recitals from time to time; I also perform in cabaret and in revue.

With my actor/singer colleague Audrey Palmer, and her husband David Rhind-Tutt on piano, I've collaborated on two revues, It's De-Lovely!, a celebration of Novello, Coward, Porter and Gershwin, and a show based around the songs of the First World War, Keep The Home Fires Burning.

'The programme of songs from the war alongside popular and light classical songs brimmed over with evocative nostalgia, while never being maudlin or over-sentimental. ... It reminded us that even during the horror of war, music and humour show the strength of the human spirit, keeping hope for the future alive.'

- Salisbury Journal on 'It's De-Lovely!'

'Simon is a fine tenor... He had a good dramatic sense and brought a number of the songs to life with a somewhat louche characterization. His renditions of John Ireland’s 'Sea Fever' and 'Pale Hands I Loved' were particularly effective, and I very much enjoyed his controlled 'Every Time We Say Goodbye'... The audience were clearly enchanted by this charming evening.'

- Hereford Times on 'Keep The Home Fires Burning'
